Art, It Does A City Good. . .

NAD2This past weekend we visited the Neighborhood Art District in Boynton Beach, located in an industrial area right by the railroad tracks off  Boynton Beach Blvd.

The Art District has been there for at least the past 15 years.  My older daughter Tessa had her first art showing there back when she was in high school.  It is a mix of operating commercial and industrial businesses and artists. In many cases industrial equipment doubles as a backdrop for the art.

I lived very near to the Boynton Neighborhood Art District for many years and saw first hand how it helped clean up what was once a rundown part of town.

Here are some photos we took there:

Here in Lake Worth we also have an opportunity to encourage a Neighborhood Art District, specifically on South H St. between Lake Ave. and 6th. Ave.

There is already an art gallery opening  in this building in the fall:

NAD16And a walk through the neighborhood shows that it would be ideal for an Art District.  Many buildings that are unoccupied and contribute only to blight would be well suited for artist space.

NAD10 This is just the type of thing that will help transform the west side of downtown and is well suited for a town like ours.  So what can we do to encourage this type of  “development”?
