Lake Worth Haitian Relief

Lake Worth’s Haitian community met with the City Commission and other concerned citizens tonight at City Hall to organize local relief efforts for earthquake devastated Haiti.

In a packed Commission Chamber, Mayor Verela and the Commissioners pledged the City’s help to act as a conduit to aid the swift distribution of food, supplies and money to Haiti.

Many people contributed suggestions as well as offering their time and skills to the effort, resulting in the formation of  the Lake Worth Haitian Relief Committee.

Barton Elementary Principal Aurora Francois stepped forward offering her time as well as space at the school as headquarters for the committee.  Francois was subsequently chosen as president to head the committee of volunteers.

It was wonderful, to see the community come together in such a positive way. Everyone realized the need is immediate and on going. The Haitians were very vocal on assuring the aid both monetary and food stuff arrived in Haiti, and went to the people. You will hear more about the appeal and I hope you can help. As soon as I
have phone numbers and drop off locations I will post them on all the blogs. Tom thank you for featuring this important story. To those who don’t know Lake Worth and St. Marc Haiti are Sister Cities.
