“We should be trying to conserve as much as possible,” said Vice Mayor Jo-Ann Golden, who plans to buy a rain barrel to water her new garden.

Click here to read Palm Beach Post Article; Lake Worth launches latest green program: $25 rebates for water-conserving rain barrels.

RainLife donated a rain barrel to the recent Shade Tree Giveaway.  Tom’s Page spoke with Jason Andreotta who operates RainLife along with his wife Holly on K St..  Jason said that he’s working hard to get the word out about the rebates.  He added, “With the drought, rain barrels are a great way for people with gardens to beat the water restrictions”.  Jason said RainLife offers plain and custom painted barrels and they even have ones that don’t need gutters on the house.

As part of Downtown Jewel Neighborhood Association’s Post Office landscaping project volunteers were working hard in the midday sun to install new palm trees today.

Wayne Marcinkowski deftly maneuvered the trees into place with his backhoe as Tom Mcgreevy and other volunteers pushed, shoveled and watered.  They were working so hard Tom’s Page didn’t get a chance to get everybody’s name.  Can anybody identify them?

CRB Chair Parrilla Resigns

Tom’s Page has learned that Community Relations Board Chair Mark Parrilla has resigned.

At the end of the board’s last meeting they voted to elect all new officers .   Electing a new Vice Chair was necessitated by Carla Blockson’s resignation to run for Commissioner and the current Secretary’s term expiring this summer.  The decision to open the Chair to a vote was prompted by a heated discussion regarding Mr. Parrilla’s posting comments on local blogs.  The board made it clear that they could vote to retain the Mr. Parrilla if members desired.

Board member Maria Uribe resigned at the last meeting and board member Sharon Stevens recently notified the CRB that she will be traveling and would miss more than 3 consecutive meetings and should be replaced.

The Commission plans to hold interviews for new appointees on June 29 and June 30.

Lisa Maxwell has posted what happened at the Tropical Ridge Neighborhood Association on her campaign page at Facebook (click here to read).

Here is an excerpt:

Tropical Ridge residents feel the effects of neglect!

Yesterday, I walked through the Tropical Ridge Neighborhood with several devoted residents who are diligent about fighting the blight and crime they experience on a daily basis. I had intended to hold a kickoff and announcement after a Neighborhood Association Crime Walk at the home of one of the residents, however, due to personal reasons, they needed to postpone this event. None the less, I felt my attending the walk itself would help me better understand the sentiments and concerns that I have been hearing from residents in this area of our town. Much ado by my opponents was made by my attendance at the walk and its implication as a political event which runs contrary to recently adopted by laws of the Tropical Ridge Neighborhood Association. As I got into the walk, I understood the reason that such a fuss was made – clearly this neighborhood needs a sea change in terms of governmental representation.

Maxwell’s May 4th press release (click here to view entire release) clearly states she intended to make her announcement at the TRNA walk and at Compass.  Not after the event at some other location as she now claims.

The fuss was made about the appropriateness of making the announcement  at a neighborhood association event, not Lisa Maxwell going on the walk. Nothing more, nothing less.

It looks like Candidate Maxwell is making good use of the spin cycle.

You Got Some “Splainin'” To Do Lisa!

Based on the following press release (click here to see the whole release), Tom’s Page wandered over to the Compass Center this afternoon.

Per the release:

Lake Worth resident and community volunteer Lisa Maxwell will announce her campaign for Lake Worth City Commission at the Tropical Ridge Neighborhood Association Community Walk on May 16th at 4:00 P.M.

She is encouraging supporters to gather on bikes or on foot at Compass on Dixie Highway and 2nd Avenue where she will declare her candidacy. Ms. Maxwell is dedicated to providing great municipal services to all of our neighborhoods, ensuring that the needs and resources of the City are provided to each and every community in an equitable fashion.

At the event, Maxwell will announce her campaign’s web site http://www.Lisamaxwell.org, and its use of Twitter (as “Lisa Maxwell”) and presence on Face book. She will be accompanied by her dog Libby (7 years old).

At 4:00PM the Compass Center was closed as it is every Sunday according to the sign on the door. The small crowd who gathered consisted of just a few people, including Jack Simons, Mary Lindsey, Christopher Summa, Shannon Brown, Vince Rogers, Carolyn Deli and Tropical Ridge Neighborhood Association vice president Silvia Williams. TRNA president Ryan Anderson and secretary/treasurer and Jessica Plotkin were absent.

When Tom’s Page asked Candidate Maxwell when the announcement would take place she replied that there was a “problem with the hosts” and the announcement was originally going to take place at the end of the walk at a different location.

The rest of the small crowd decided to start the walk and we decided to tag along, or at least we tried to tag along.  Carolyn Deli and Silvia Williams told Tom’s Page and Christopher Summa (who also had a camera) that we were not welcome and could not come on the walk.  When asked why, they stated that we were bloggers and had never attended a walk before and we were only there due to Candidate Maxwell’s presence.  They went on to say that an e-mail had been circulating that caused a lot of people to stay away from the walk.  At this point Deli and Williams made inference that Candidate Maxwell was not welcome to join the group on the walk either due to the commotion caused by the e-mail .

TRNA resident Shannon Brown then said she would take Maxwell on a walk around the neighborhood and they left together.  Past TRNA president Vince Rogers spoke with Christopher Summa and they decided to walk together.

Around then a PBSO Deputy arrived asking where the “crime walk” was and joined the group.

Tom’s Page was asked not to join the walk and decided to go home.

We have learned that the E-mail that was circulated questioned the use of the TRNA walk as a suitable venue for Maxwell’s announcement, citing the TRNA bylaws regarding any political involvement.  The e-mail also questioned holding the campaign announcement at Compass due to its “non-political / not for profit” status.

Christopher Summa let Tom’s Page know that the walk ended just before 5:00  and Vince Rodgers told him, “There’s a war going on in this neighborhood, and the other side just won a little battle”.

There appears to be a lot of “‘splainin’” to be done here.

Oh yes, Libby was nowhere to be seen.

Edit: In the original post  Jessica Plotkin’s and Silvia Williams’  positions on the TRNA board were incorrectly stated and have been corrected.
