Mother Earth Coffee and Gifts was packed to overflowing tonight for the first annual Dundun celebration. The event was organized by Cleo to help out deserving independent local businesses with Mother Earth being the inaugural recipient.  Cleo also served as the Mistress of Ceremonies introducing the eclectic group of performers who gathered to support the cause.  The highlight of the evening was when Mother Earth proprietress Patti along with Cleo performed Ike and Tina Turner’s Proud Mary leaving both them and the audience breathless.

It was a great night that raised money for a wonderful and unique Lake Worth business.

Note:  I posted about the Blue Planet Writers’ Room back in September.  Click Here to see the original post.  I received the information below today and wanted to pass it along.

One Thousand and Four students have signed up to participate in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards 2010 in Palm Beach County!

Isn’t that excellent?

(This is where you come in.)

We need kind, intelligent, benevolent, and good-looking judges (see- that’s why we chose YOU) to select worthy pieces of student writing that will be honored at a special awards ceremony in March at Dreyfoos SOA, and possibly at Carnegie Hall in NYC in June! http://www.artandwriting.org/

We’ll be holding two judging sessions- one in the morning from (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and one in the afternoon (2 p.m. to 6 p.m.) at Compass on Saturday, January 16th.

Sign up for a session and you’ll get to read some excellent student writing while earning our undying gratitude. You’ll also have some snacks and hang out with other cool people that are interested in helping the students in Palm Beach County get some well-deserved national recognition.

So, here’s what you do:

1. Pick a session- morning or afternoon.

2. Email me and tell me when you’ll be there.

3. Pass this email along to kind, intelligent, benevolent and good-looking friends of yours that will want to sign up with you!

THANK YOU!!!!

Recently signs warning drivers that pedestrians in crosswalks have the right of way have been installed at all of intersections on Lake and Lucerne downtown.  They have a noticeable effect on slowing traffic and alerting drivers to intersections that may not be visible due to cars parked near them.  Not sure who was responsible for getting the signs placed downtown, but they are a welcome addition that was overdue.
